Regardless of the trappings of dire poverty of which most in the community live, Priyadarshni and Om, over the last ten years has built pride in a once fractured community, (green spaces, composting, and an appreciation of nature) an awareness of the importance of education and the celebration of community events. By celebrating religious events, weddings and scheduled speakers, the community has an opportunity to mingle and meet and become a stronger unit. In the next ten years, Priyadarshni and Om’s vision is to continue to establish new programs for free or nominal cost, so as to continue to educate the community about local issues, the outside world, communal living, and how it is possible to create a bright future for their children despite personal hardships, through improved health care, insisting on the right to education, especially for girls, and community involvement both in and outside the community. We will accomplish this by listening to and implementing ideas from outside sources such as other NGO’s who have succeeded in areas we need to improve, and from listening to our community and their needs and mediating those needs for the betterment of everyone. We look forward to a brighter future, especially for the children of this amazing, community whose families struggle with issues of caste, employment and overcrowding.
